designer’s worst enemy
…is his own fear.
Designing is a creative endeavor. Being creative means having the capacity to create; to come up with something new.
To be able to do that, a designer needs to try approaches that appear unconventional or even different ideas that appear foolish.
Doing that, as in doing other visionary actions, involves a big risk; risk of being ridiculed and misunderstood. This is why many designers choose to “play safe” and not take that risk.
That fear keeps a designer from trying different things outside of the known solutions. If keeps him from asking the question “what if…”. It keeps him from being creative. It keeps him from creating.
